Our Path
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. As I reflect on the serenity found in the teachings of the Coptic Church in Connecticut, I find comfort in these words. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Much like the peaceful faith experienced in the Czech Orthodox Church or the various Orthodox churches in Prague, this passage brings solace to my spirit. (Psalm 23)
We Believe
The Coptic Orthodox Church, including communities such as the Coptic Church in Connecticut, believes in the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, who are equal to each other in one unity. This church holds that the Lord Jesus Christ is the one true Savior of the world and adheres to the Nicene Creed. St. Athanasius (296-373 A.D.) famously defended the doctrine of Christ's Divinity at the Council of Nicaea in 325 A.D. Additionally, the Coptic Orthodox Church affirms the one united nature of the Divinity and Humanity of Jesus Christ, aligning with the Miaphysite belief. In contrast, the Czech Orthodox Church and other Orthodox churches in Prague have their unique traditions, but they all share a commitment to the core tenets of faith.
Our Community
The Coptic Orthodox Church comprises diverse communities, including the Egyptian Coptic community, which preserves ancient traditions in Egypt, as well as diaspora communities in countries like the U.S. and Australia, who maintain ties to their Egyptian roots. In places like Connecticut, the Coptic Church fosters connections among local members, while monastic communities devoted to prayer and asceticism thrive. Coptic youth and student groups support young people across various countries, including connections with the Czech Orthodox Church and the Orthodox churches in Prague, emphasizing the importance of ecumenical dialogue. Despite their differences, all these communities are united by shared faith, beliefs, and worship practices.
